Oh take me back to Carnaby Street. Not now, back then. You know, in the ‘Swingin’ Sixties, maybe before that, when John Steven opened ‘His Clothes’ in 1957. And Mary Quant had her boutique ‘Baazar’. It wasn’t a sixties fashions centre yet. Nestled in London’s west end, you only had Inderwicks pipe shop. Of course that had been around since the eighteenth century. In the beginning Carnaby Street featured male clothing.
Carnaby Street is a big tourist stop now. But there are still some great shops in the neighborhood.
If you ever get there, stop by ‘Merc’.They have tons of Mod stuff, and their own label as well.
Don’t miss “Ben Sherman’s” store on Carnaby, I think this was they’re first store.
‘Twinkled’ is a wonderful Retro shop. What makes this store unique is the original 60’s stuff, and these aren’t reproductions. They also have an amazing assortment of shoes.
And there’s ‘Sherry’s’, a large selection, check out the Paisley shirts.
In the early days the ‘Stars’ shopped on Carnaby Street. But later it became a hangout for the Mod’s.
